What is a Pulpectomy?

A pulpectomy is a procedure that is used to remove the pulp from a tooth. The pulp is the soft tissue that contains the blood vessels and nerves. Pulpectomies are generally needed when the pulp has become infected or damaged. In some cases, a pulpectomy can be used to save a tooth that would otherwise need to be extracted. The procedure is usually performed on baby teeth, although it can occasionally be necessary for permanent teeth as well. During a pulpectomy, our All Dental dentist will first numb the tooth and surrounding area. They will then create an opening in the tooth so that they can access the pulp. Once the pulp has been removed, the cavity will be filled with a material known as gutta-percha. A final filling will then be placed over the opening. In most cases, a pulpectomy is a relatively simple and straightforward procedure. However, it is important to note that teeth that have had a pulpectomy will no longer have any living tissue inside of them. As a result, they will be more susceptible to fracture and will need to be closely monitored by your favorite Riverview dentist.

Pulpectomy Benefits

Immediate dentures are a type of denture that is placed immediately after tooth extractions. This option is ideal for patients who do not want to go without teeth during the healing process. Immediate dentures are also often used as a temporary solution while waiting for permanent dentures to be made. However, because they are immediate, immediate dentures may not fit as well as permanent dentures and may need to be re-lined or replaced sooner. Nevertheless, immediate dentures can provide patients with the confidence of having a full set of teeth during the healing process.
